* Indian Basmati Rice – 1 cup (150gms) * Water (cold) 1.5 cup
* Wash rice thoroughly from a pan (3 times) * Pour 1.5 cup cold water and soak rice for 15mins * Turn the heat on full and bring rice to boiling point. Stir rice well to prevent sticking at bottom - this process takes 4mins. * Transfer the pan on the smallest hob and simmer (lowest) setting for 6mins. Zeera Rice (Fried Rice with Cumin Seeds) | |
* Indian Basmati Rice – 1 cup (150gms) * Cumin 1tsp * Bay leaf 1 * Unsalted butter (15gms) * Drop of oil * Boiled water 1.25 cup
* Wash rice thoroughly from a pan and drain through a sieve. Dry rice wrapped up in a paper kitchen towel. * Melt butter in a pan with a drop of oil. Add bay leaf and cumin. Gently fry these. Ensure that heat is low. At the point of aroma being released, add rice and keep stirring. Wait for some grains to turn white, pour 1.25 cup hot water in the pan. Mix well and simmer on the smallest hob for 6mins. Your zeera rice is done. * Serves 2 and cost .35p. | ![]() |
